About Us

The agency was founded by Larry S. Helms with a vision to build an agency of individuals with strengths/backgrounds in a variety of different industries, in addition to insurance. The agency’s objectives, “to provide the necessary coverages with extraordinary service at competitive prices”, will be better served by having associates who have worked in businesses other than insurance; associates who understand the business issues and risks that business owners and homeowners face in the current environment. Following that vision, he has brought together a mix of individuals from industries such as utilities, textiles, food distribution and financial services in addition to individuals who have significant experience within the insurance industry.

Larry Helms, the founder of the organization, is involved in a number of activities which are extremely beneficial in building the business partnerships which differentiate Larry S. Helms & Associates from other independent agencies. For example, in addition to founding this business, Larry is involved in the community and business in the following capacities:

1. Board Member – NC Department of Transportation
2. Director – American Community Bank
3. Treasurer – Union County Chamber of Commerce
4. Union-West Rotary
5. Former Chairman/Board Member – Union County Board of Commissioners

Prior to these roles, Larry built a career with BellSouth in addition to serving over 30 years in the North Carolina Air National Guard where he retired as a Lt. Colonel. As the founder of the business, Larry draws upon his wide range of experiences to serve our customers/business partners.

Our office now includes 10 licensed agents as we continue to grow our operation to better serve our customers. Our associates have over 75 years of experience in the insurance industry. With this growth, we are currently licensed in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia. Our associates can manage all of your insurance needs – commercial, life and health, as well as personal lines including home auto and personal liability.

We represent many strong and financially sound companies and choose from these companies the ones that best suit your needs. We provide a full line of property & casualty (home, auto, boats, motorcycles, business insurance, workers’ compensation, etc.) and life, & health (life insurance, health insurance, annuities, Medicare supplements, long term care, etc.) coverage for individuals or groups.
