Mortality Insurance: Coverage For Your Horse
We offer Full Mortality Coverage for your horse for death as a result of an injury, illness, or humane destruction, and coverage also provides for loss or death as a result of theft. Coverage territory includes the continental U.S.A. and Canada. Mortality premiums are based on your horse’s breed, age, and use. Please call us for a quote.
Full Mortality policies include:
- Colic Surgery Coverage of up to $3,000. Should your horse ever require colic surgery, having mortality coverage can give you valuable colic surgery coverage benefits including aftercare and third party transportation.
- Value Endorsement – in the event of a mortality claim, if the value of your horse at any time during the policy period was equal to the limit of liability, you will be paid that amount.
- Guaranteed Extension Coverage – in the event of a condition occurring to your horse and reported during the policy period, mortality coverage for that condition will continue for up to 12 months from the expiration date.
You may also want to consider adding one or more of the following coverages to your horse’s policy.
Major Medical and Surgical – This option provides your horse with coverage for the cost of covered medical and surgical procedures including diagnostics as a result of an accident, injury, illness, or disease. This coverage is available for horses ages 6 months through 15 years. Two plans are available:
$7,500 Annual Aggregate Limit – offers a limit of up to $7,500, not to exceed your horse’s insured mortality limit, subject to a $300 deductible per accident, injury, illness, or disease.
$10,000 Annual Aggregate Limit – offers a limit of $10,000, subject to a $300 deductible per accident, injury, illness, or disease.
Surgical Only – This option provides your horse with coverage up to $5,000 for the cost of actual surgery, and for aftercare medical fees for up to 30 days equal to the cost of the surgery. This coverage is available for horses ages 6 months through 17 years.
Colic Medical and Surgical – This option provides your horse with an annual limit of the lesser of $3,000 or sixty percent (60%) of the mortality limit of liability, for cost of medical and surgical colics including aftercare, subject to a $300 deductible. This coverage is available for horse’s ages 6 months – 15 years.
Third Party Liability – If you are sued by a third party for bodily injury or property damage directly caused by your horse, this coverage will defend and pay claims made against you for which you are legally liable up the limit of $25,000. (Ask about Equine Personal Liability coverage if you desire higher limits.)
Territorial Limits Including Transit – Mortality coverage may be extended to include international transportation to, from, and while staying in approved countries. For example, if you purchase a horse in Europe and plan to import it, you can add this coverage so your horse is covered while in Europe. (Prior notification of transit must be given.)
Stallion Infertility for A, S, & D – This option provides coverage in the event your proven stallion becomes permanently incapable of settling mares in foal as a result of an accident, sickness, or disease. Coverage is not available to stallions in their first breeding season or for inactive stallions.
External Injury Loss of Use – This option provides coverage in the event your horse becomes totally and permanently unfit for its insured use as a result of a visible, external, accidental and violent means injury. Available for horses ages 2-17 years, for select uses only.
Full Loss of Use – This option provides coverage in the event your horse suffers an illness or injury, and as a result becomes totally and permanently unfit for its insured use. Available for horses ages 2-12 years, for select uses only.
